Spotted salamander

Scientific name: Ambystoma maculatum

The continents of North, Central, and South America are home to numerous species of leopard frogs. Large spots and a range of green and brown hues characterize leopard frogs. Their two stripes run parallel from their eyes down their backs. Because of their extreme adaptability, leopard frogs can be found almost anywhere in freshwater, including ponds in crowded cities. The bright yellow spots that cover the Spotted salamander's body gave rise to its name. They can reach a maximum length of approximately 10 inches and are rather large for a salamander. Most of the eastern United States and southeast Canada are home to spotted salamanders.
